Jody was to be gone for 6 long months to run Lukinto this season. In 35 years of marriage, this is the longest he has ever been gone. After 3 vacations up to the lodge to see him and many phone calls back and forth, Jody finally came home on Sunday October 26th. I just knew that he would want to go bowhunting for deer by our cabin in Wisconsin. He called me up at work on Thursday November 6th and said he wanted to go. I figured he would be asking, because I knew he would want to go, especially after being gone so long and not having had too much opportunity to fish or hunt. Or at least not as much as I knew he would want to.
He left to go to the cabin early Friday November 7th and went out on for the evening stand. Ten minutes after he got on stand he saw the buck about 150 yards away, going in the other direction. He grunted him in to 35 yards, quartering away. He shot the 11 pointer, that had a 20" inside spread and weighed 180 field dressed. He found it 70 yards away from his stand.
Although he has had numerous shots and killed about the same number of deer as he shot at, this was the best buck he ever shot in the 33 years of bowhunting. There was no doubt that he would have it mounted. About 1 year from now it will be ready to be picked up. And no, it is not going to be hanging in our kitchen, livingroom or bedroom!
